Wasa Lodge

Wasa Lodge sits on the eastern edge of Lake Wasa, inside Kasanka National Park in central Zambia, twelve kilometres from the park entrance on the tarmac road. The dining area looks out over the lake, where puku and hippo are regularly visible and sitatunga occasionally cross into view.

The lodge has eight rooms in two types. Three larger chalets each have a double and a single bed, a verandah facing the lake, and an en-suite bathroom with shower, basin, and flush toilet. Four smaller rondavels offer double or twin beds with en-suite bathrooms and bucket showers. All rooms have mosquito nets. The bar, communal dining, and battery-charging facilities serve the whole lodge.

Fibwe Hide — the main platform for watching sitatunga and Kasanka's bat migration — is fifteen minutes by vehicle or two hours on foot from the lodge. Each year, millions of straw-coloured fruit bats roost in the Kasanka forest, and the lodge runs dedicated game drives to hides used by BBC and NHK film crews to observe the bats leaving and returning. Other activities include guided walks, night drives, mountain biking to the bat forest, canoeing and boating on the Luwombwa River, catch-and-release fishing, and a visit to the Kasanka Conservation Centre to join researchers tracking Kinda baboons in the field. Guided picnic lunches and sundowner walks are also on offer.

A private vehicle is available for transfers and game drives, and laundry is complimentary.
