Waterford Castle Hotel & Golf Resort

Waterford Castle Hotel & Golf Resort occupies a castle on a private island of three hundred and ten acres in County Waterford. You reach it by the resort's own car ferry, a short crossing over the water channel that separates the island from the mainland — there is no bridge, and the island has no through traffic.

Rooms range from standard to presidential suite. Each has heated towel rails, in-room coffee, complimentary toiletries, and daily newspapers. The building is a castle, so no two rooms are the same shape.

The main restaurant operates in the Munster Room. The Fitzgerald Bar stocks a collection of Irish whiskey that runs to a serious length — if whiskey is your interest, it is worth asking the bar staff to walk you through it.

On the island itself: an eighteen-hole golf course, a tennis court, an archery range, and several walking trails. Three hundred and ten acres of private ground means you can walk a long way before you run out of island.

The car ferry crossing is both the practical entry point and the clearest signal that this is a self-contained place. Once across, there is no need to leave until checkout.
