Hike to Dian Fossey’s grave and Karisoke ruins
This activity involves a demanding hike to the burial site of Dian Fossey and the remains of her Karisoke Research Centre. The trail passes through the saddle between Bisoke and Karisimbi volcanoes, reaching an altitude of around 3,000 metres. The route offers views of the surrounding rainforest and volcanic landscape. The hike is physically challenging due to elevation and terrain. It provides a historical insight into Fossey’s work with mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park. Participants should be prepared for a full-day excursion with appropriate gear and fitness.
