Wilderness Ruckomechi sits on the bank of the Zambezi River inside Mana Pools National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Zimbabwe's Lower Zambezi Valley. The camp holds ten en-suite tents — two of which are configured for families — pitched beneath ana trees whose pods draw elephant into camp to feed. From the main area you look across a wide bend of the river to the escarpment on the far bank.
The camp operates through the dry season, when wildlife concentrates along the river. A pool overlooks the Zambezi. There is an outdoor bath positioned to face the water, and a Star Bed treehouse elevated above a waterhole for overnight sleep-outs. A fire pit anchors the central area in the evenings.
Game drives go out on open four-by-four vehicles; rangers lead walking safaris across the floodplains and woodland. On the water, motorised pontoon boats and canoes cover the same ground from a different level — useful for watching hippo and waterbirds, and for observing elephant as they cross and drink. The camp also offers catch-and-release fishing from the river.
Ruckomechi sits on a private concession adjoining the national park boundary, which keeps vehicle numbers low. The camp overlooks a crossing point used regularly by elephant breeding herds moving between the two river banks.
