Wolwedans is a collection of five camps and lodges inside the NamibRand Nature Reserve, a large private reserve south of Sossusvlei in Namibia's Hardap region. The camps — Desert Lodge, Dune Camp, Plains Camp, Mountain View Suite, and Boulders Camp — are each sited separately in the landscape: on a dune plateau, above a valley, in a granite boulder field three hours south of the others. No two share the same setting or the same scale.
Desert Lodge holds nine tented chalets on a dune plateau, each with a private verandah and en-suite bathroom; canvas blinds open fully to the desert. Dune Camp sits on the edge of a dune two hundred and fifty metres high. Plains Camp is a four-bedroom exclusive-use property for families or groups. Mountain View Suite is a single private unit with its own chef, guide, and vehicle, built on two hundred square metres of deck above the dunes. Boulders Camp sits at the base of a granite outcrop on the gravel plains.
Activities run across the reserve: guided scenic drives at sunrise and sunset, San-guided walks through the dunes, e-biking, horse riding, and hot-air ballooning over the dune landscape — the last arranged through a third party and booked in advance. The reserve holds International Dark Sky Reserve status, and a desert sleepout under that sky is available at Dune Camp and the Mountain View Suite.
Wolwedans has collected conservation levies for NamibRand since 1995 and runs the Desert Academy, a vocational training programme for young Namibians in hospitality.
