Mokoro Excursions
A traditional dugout canoe, called a mokoro, carries guests across the Delta's shallow waterways at Xigera. A local poler stands at the stern, pushing the craft along with a long pole, keeping the pace slow and quiet. These polers have spent their lives on these channels and know where to find fish, waterbirds and other wildlife along the reeds. Unlike a motorised boat, the mokoro makes almost no noise, so animals nearby often stay undisturbed. It is a low, close-to-the-water way to see the Moremi Game Reserve, suited to those who prefer stillness over speed.
