Aegialis Hotel & Spa

Aegialis Hotel & Spa is Amorgos's first dedicated wellness and retreat property, founded in 1992 by the Giannakopoulos family on a hillside site above Aegiali Bay in the island's northeast. The family had run the island's earliest guest accommodation since 1965; construction of the hotel required two years of manual work on raw mountain terrain, including a water-recycling system and a pipeline for seawater to the pool. The property expanded in phases to its present 60 rooms and suites, added the Lalon Idor thalassotherapy spa in 2005, and established the Aegialis School of Yoga in 2020. It now hosts more than 20 yoga and wellness retreats each year.

Rooms occupy whitewashed blocks terraced into the slope. Superior sea-front rooms face Aegiali Bay through private balconies; junior suites convert sitting areas into second sleeping zones and include steam rooms in double showers. Deluxe categories add private outdoor jacuzzis or small plunge pools on the balcony—one variant positions its heated pool inside a stone cave alcove. The standalone Spa Suite offers a 25 m² veranda, outdoor family jacuzzi, and two bedrooms with separate bathrooms.

Eight indoor and outdoor shalas serve group sessions. The flagship Namaste shala spans 280 m² within the spa complex; the Rashmi geodesic dome overlooks the sea from an elevated spur. A Pilates studio holds 30 reformers, five with towers, plus Cadillac and barrel equipment. The thalasso spa draws seawater into its indoor pool and includes sauna, hammam, jacuzzi, and a sea-view fitness centre. Treatments use local herbs and essential oils distilled on the property.

Ambrosia Gallery Restaurant has held Aegean Cuisine certification since the programme began. The kitchen follows recipes passed down from the owners' grandparents, preparing patatato—goat slow-cooked in red wine and cinnamon tomato sauce—and fava, a yellow-pea purée finished with wild mint and Amorgian olive oil. Calypso Restaurant operates poolside from morning into evening; Apeiro Bar occupies a terrace at sunset level. The family cultivates organic vegetables within the hotel grounds.
