Akagera Ihema Lodges

Set on the shore of Lake Ihema in Rwanda's Eastern Province, Ihema Lodges places five private bungalows minutes from Akagera National Park's entrance. Each 65 m² unit stands on ground level with a separate entrance, a living room, a bedroom fitted with an extra-long double bed, and an en-suite bathroom with walk-in shower and hairdryer. Bay windows open onto a private terrace facing the lake. All bungalows include tea and coffee-making facilities, Wi-Fi, mosquito nets, a fan, and outdoor furniture on the terrace. One unit is equipped with wheelchair access and grab rails. The lodge lies two hours' drive from Kigali.

The restaurant serves Rwandan and European dishes prepared with local ingredients; vegetarian and children's menus are available. A bar and outdoor seating overlook the lake. Packed lunches can be arranged for guests departing on game drives. Massage treatments take place in-room or on the terrace. The lodge partners with Emmanuel, a former park ranger who leads one-, two-, or three-day guided safaris into Akagera to track the Big Five across savanna and wetland. Boat cruises depart from the lake shore. The Akagera Traditional Cultural Village, a short distance away, runs workshops in weaving, basketry, and traditional dance.
