Each tent faces a watering point across an open valley floor, framed by thatch, canvas, and timber deck. Eight tented suites sit at the head of the valley on Amakhala Game Reserve, a 9,000-hectare tract in the Eastern Cape an hour east of Port Elizabeth. Thatched roofs shelter canvas walls and wooden floors; every suite has a private plunge pool, a viewing deck, air-conditioning, a fireplace, an oval bath, and an outdoor shower. One family tent adds a second bedroom with twin beds and a separate toilet. The main lodge holds a lounge, a bar, a restaurant, and a pool deck that looks over game-filled plains. Spa treatments are arranged on-site.
Two game drives depart daily in open four-wheel-drive vehicles. Rangers guide morning and late-afternoon drives tracking lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo, and leopard, alongside cheetah, giraffe, zebra, and plains game across wooded valleys, open grassland, and river systems. The reserve is malaria-free. Guided bush walks with a qualified trails guide last two to three hours and require guests to be sixteen or older. Horse trails accept intermediate and experienced riders with 18 hours' notice. Reception sits at the colonial Reed Valley Inn; staff transfer you into the reserve from there. The land has been held by the founding family since 1898, when Jabez Weeks purchased the farm and named it Reed Valley. Rod and Tracy Weeks built Bush Lodge in 2007; their children Damon and Tatum now run the property.
