andBeyond Phinda Homestead

Phinda Homestead is a sole-use villa inside andBeyond Phinda Private Game Reserve in Zululand, KwaZulu-Natal. It holds four suites and is booked as a single unit, so the house, the staff and the vehicle are yours for the duration. A dedicated ranger, tracker, butler and chef come with the property.

The suites open through large sliding doors onto views of the surrounding bush. Bathrooms feature marble basins shaped like traditional Zulu pots. The living areas connect directly to outdoor decks, and a rim-flow pool sits on a multi-level deck with a long view over the reserve. The kitchen is designed for guests to use alongside the chef — meals here are informal rather than formal dining room affairs.

Because the property has its own open four-wheel-drive vehicle, game drives run on your schedule rather than the reserve's. Morning, afternoon and night drives are all available. On foot, guided nature walks cover the area around the lodge — tracking animals, reading signs, learning the flora. Beyond standard game viewing, Phinda runs specialist activities at additional cost: rhino tracking on foot, a pangolin conservation project that monitors Temminck's ground pangolin using VHF and GSM tracking tags, elephant conservation work, thermal imaging night drives, and a boat trip on the Mzinene River.

The Maputaland coast — including Sodwana Bay, a coral reef dive site, and the leatherback and loggerhead turtle nesting beaches — lies within reach for half-day excursions.
