Solid wood furniture, woven cotton linen, and local handicrafts fill each of the 37 rooms and suites distributed across gardens on Umbwe Hill. Terraces face the Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Eyasi, or the Karatu highlands; you wake to one of these views every morning. The lodge sits a few kilometres from the Ngorongoro Crater in the fertile Karatu region, surrounded by coffee plantations and market gardens that supply two on-site vegetable plots.
Two restaurants and two bars serve Tanzanian and international menus; a pergola beside the pool operates as a third dining point. The main lounge holds a fireplace for cool evenings. A panoramic pool runs on an eco-friendly water system and holds warmth after sunset. The massage room offers wellness treatments. Mountain bikes are available at no charge. Solar panels — 140 kilowatts peak installed — cover over 85 per cent of the lodge's electricity needs. Wi-Fi reaches common areas.
Family units contain two separate bedrooms; interconnecting rooms accommodate larger groups. Triple and quadruple configurations are available. Guided walks leave from the property into the surrounding hills. Off-site excursions include game drives to Lake Manyara National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater, cultural visits to Mto wa Mbu village, and encounters with Hadzabe communities near Lake Eyasi. Staff speak English, French, Spanish, and Swahili. Security operates around the clock.
