Binna Burra Mountain Lodge

Set at 800 metres above sea level on the boundary of Lamington National Park in Queensland's Gold Coast Hinterland, Binna Burra occupies 34 hectares of sub-tropical rainforest accessed via Binna Burra Road from Beechmont. The property was founded in 1933 by Arthur Groom and Romeo Lahey, who formed Australia's first dedicated conservation organisation three years earlier and established a lodge to provide access to the park they helped protect. The September 2019 Black Summer bushfires destroyed the central heritage lodge and pioneer cabins; the site reopened in September 2020 with remaining structures. A new lodge and 30 rooms are scheduled for completion in 2026.

Sky Lodge apartments, built in 2011 from core-filled concrete, stone, tin, and timber, survived the fires and now anchor accommodation alongside Tiny Wild Houses, refurbished safari tents, and a rainforest campsite. All Sky Lodges face north and include fully equipped kitchens, gas fireplaces, bathrooms, televisions, and furnished balconies. The safari tents and campsites share communal facilities: bathrooms, fire pits, a shared kitchen, and coin-operated laundry.

Groom's Cottage houses the Bushwalker's Bar on the ground floor and the Heritage Reading Room upstairs. The bar opens Friday and Saturday evenings; outdoor seating surrounds a fire pit with views across the valley. The Teahouse café and restaurant operates daily. Guided walks lead through Antarctic beech forest, along escarpments, and into heathland; trails to Bellbird Lookout — the first track cut in 1934 — begin on site. The property holds a place on the Queensland Heritage Register as the Binna Burra Cultural Landscape, recognised for its association with the state's conservation history and the lives of Groom and Lahey.
