Boschendal Farm

Set on 1,800 hectares between Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, Boschendal is a working wine and fruit farm with 107 guest cottages, villas, and farmhouses spread across orchards, the historic Werf precinct, and the slopes below the Simonsberg. Accommodation ranges from one-bedroom studios to the six-bedroom Mountain Villa. Cottage 1685, designed by Sir Herbert Baker, sits two kilometres from the main Werf and looks over the valley. The Orchard Cottages occupy converted labourers' houses among the fruit trees, each with a kitchenette and access to a shared pool. Werf Garden Cottages lie within walking distance of the central precinct. The Vineyard Farmhouse and Champagne Farmhouse are self-catering homes with four or five bedrooms, full kitchens, and private gardens.

The Deli serves breakfast, lunch, and wood-fired pizzas. The Werf Restaurant offers farm-to-table menus drawn from estate produce, including Black Angus beef and Duroc pork raised on the property. Picnic baskets are available for the lawns. The Farm Shop and Butchery stock beef, pork, eggs, bread, and seasonal fruit.

Guests can join morning guided hikes, explore mountain-biking and walking trails through orchards and fynbos, or book wine tastings at the Cellar Door under the oaks. Horse riding operates Monday to Sunday with hourly slots for beginner, intermediate, and experienced riders. Children aged four to twelve can enrol in the Tree House outdoor programme, which runs morning, midday, and afternoon sessions. A pump track and play area sit near the main Werf. You can hear the call of hadedas from the terrace at dawn. The estate holds Animal Welfare Approved certification from A Greener World and operates a regenerative farming model with free-ranging cattle, forest-raised pigs, and mobile layer hens.
