Camp Xakanaxa in the Moremi Game Reserve at Camp Xakanaxa, Moremi Game Reserve, Botswana.
Perfect for Birding, Flora, Leisure, Nature, Relaxation, Wildlife

Camp Xakanaxa sits on the bank of the Khwai River where it overlooks the Xakanaxa Lagoon, inside the Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta. The camp holds twelve canvas Meru-style tents accommodating twenty-four guests in total: eleven standard tents plus a separate two-bedroom, two-bathroom tent designed for families. Each tent has twin or double beds, an en-suite shower, and a private deck with loungers facing the lagoon.

The main buildings — lounge, dining room, bar, and fire-deck — are raised on timber platforms over the river, built from local timber, reed, and thatch. A small library, a sundeck, a plunge pool, and a sala with a day bed complete the central area. A second pool was added more recently.

The camp is one of the few in the region that runs both land and water game viewing throughout the year. Morning and sunset drives go out in open Land Rovers carrying six to eight passengers, keeping space generous and sightlines clear. Motorised boat safaris cross the lagoon and push into the broader Delta. The habitat around camp — riverine forest, open savanna, seasonal floodplains, and winding channels — supports elephant, buffalo, wild dog, lion, leopard, cheetah, hippo, giraffe, hyena, lechwe, and kudu. Birding increases in spring and summer when migratory species are breeding.

The family unit has an open-plan lounge and its own private deck, making it a self-contained option within the camp.
