Chacma Bush Camp
Three-chalet camp on 8,000 hectares of the Maseke reserve near Phalaborwa
Set in the Maseke section of the Balule Nature Reserve near Phalaborwa, the camp occupies 8,000 hectares of mopane woodland, boulder koppies, and ridgeline above the Olifants River. Three chalets built from local stone and natural rock sleep ten in total. Klipspringer, the largest, accommodates four adults or two adults and four children; it has a king bed, sleeper couch, two stretcher beds, an outdoor shower, and views of the pool. Grysbok has two bedrooms—one with a double bed, one with bunks—plus a shared indoor shower. Steenbok sleeps three and faces the waterhole directly; it adjoins the main area. All chalets are air-conditioned and have en-suite facilities, mosquito nets, and private decks.
A small waterhole sits below the pool deck and draws elephants, buffalo, and plains game, especially in the dry winter months. You can watch arrivals from a lounge chair beside the water. Twice-daily game drives cross the reserve's ridges, mopane stands, and river corridor; rangers stop for coffee at sunrise and sundowners in the evening. Bush breakfasts unfold beside the Olifants; stargazing sessions can be arranged after dark. The boma hosts evening fires; the lapa serves traditional dinners at a long table. The camp is family-friendly and accepts children over five. Staff speak English and Afrikaans.
