Chelinda Camp : Livingstonia Trail Hike

Three-day hike across Malawi’s Nyika Plateau

The Livingstonia Trail is a three-day hike covering the Nyika Plateau from Chelinda to the Livingstonia Mission. Walks last around six hours daily, moving through high grasslands, forests, and villages. The first night is spent near the Phata Stream in tents measuring 2.2 by 1.7 metres, with eco-friendly latrines and bucket showers heated by fire. The route descends steeply through Mwenembwe Forest and North Rumphi valley, ending with an ascent to Livingstonia. Meals are provided, and drinking water is sourced from mountain streams. The hike accommodates groups of four to eight and offers a remote camping experience.
