Birding in Nyika National Park’s diverse habitats

Nyika National Park hosts over 400 bird species, including range-restricted birds like Black-lored Cisticolas and Blue Swallows. The park features endemic subspecies such as the Red-winged Francolin and Rufous-naped Lark. Birding is notable year-round, but early summer—October and November—offers the best opportunities as breeding activity peaks and migratory birds arrive. The diverse habitats include forests and grasslands across the plateau. Chelinda Lodge provides a base equipped with a lounge area and fireplace for relaxation after birding excursions.
