Chobe River Campsite Gondwana Collection Namibia

Mopane timber frames the twenty tented chalets that face the Chobe River and its floodplains. Chobe River Camp sits four kilometres from the Ngoma border post linking Namibia and Botswana, in the Zambezi Region where large herds of elephant, buffalo, and antelope move across the landscape. The camp is an eco-friendly base built from local mopane and canvas, powered entirely by solar energy. Fifteen twin rooms and five family rooms are fitted with air-conditioning, en-suite showers, mosquito nets over the beds, and private decks that overlook the river or open grassland. Each family tent accommodates up to two children under thirteen on a sleeper couch alongside a double bed. Guided boat cruises run in the morning and late afternoon, when light slants low across the water and birdlife congregates along the channels. A full-day cruise explores the river system for six hours. Canadian canoe trips and guided walking trails cross the floodplain, seasonal and dependent on water levels. Between September and December the river often holds too little water for boat access, and activity schedules adjust accordingly. Birding drives track species camouflaged in the grassy plains near camp. Day trips reach Chobe National Park in Botswana, combining a morning boat cruise with an afternoon game drive, and excursions to Victoria Falls—150 kilometres east—can be arranged on-site. Staff speak English and Afrikaans. During the rainy season the access road requires a four-wheel-drive vehicle, and the team escorts all arrivals from the turn-off.
