Cocokinondo Beach House
Seven-bedroom villa on Galu Beach, Diani: 20-metre pool, tennis court, two acres
Arriving by the Diani–Ukunda airstrip 10 km inland, guests reach Cocokinondo within 20 minutes. Interior architect Shiro designed the residence in neutral tones; Moroccan rugs, Japanese furniture, and Kenyan art furnish the interiors. Solar energy powers the property; natural ventilation systems supplement air conditioning throughout. Seven bedrooms accommodate up to 14 guests. Six air-conditioned en-suite doubles and twins occupy the main house and a separate guest house. The guest house includes an open-plan living and dining room, a kitchen, and an office. The first floor of the main house is devoted to a 130 m² presidential suite with two 50 m² bathrooms, each fitted with a bathtub, dressing area, and massage table. Deluxe double rooms contain king-size beds; deluxe twin rooms hold two doubles apiece. A 200 m² swimming pool runs 20 m in length at the beachfront; a Jacuzzi adjoins. A floodlit tennis court includes a covered viewing area. The lower ground floor houses a gym with running machines, static bicycles, elliptical equipment, and free weights. A games room contains a snooker table, table football, table tennis, and board games. A home cinema occupies the upper ground floor. Dining menus rotate between Mediterranean, Asian, Kenyan, and barbecued local fish or meat; an executive chef and a team of 11 staff work the residence. Kite surfing, scuba diving, and deep-sea fishing operate from Galu Beach. Mombasa airport lies 40 km north via the Dongo Kundu bypass.
