Dar Ben Gacem Kahia

Set within a restored 17th-century house on Rue El Kahia in the Medina of Tunis, Dar Ben Gacem Kahia forms half of a fifteen-room boutique hotel alongside the nearby Dar Pasha. The Dar retains its gypsum-carved ceilings, Kairouani Arabic script framing, hand-painted tiles, and wooden decorative elements. Eight individually designed rooms carry the names of Tunisian ceramic innovators from the last two centuries, each furnished by local artisans. All rooms include private bathrooms and windows facing either the interior courtyard or the street.

Kallalin is a T-shaped ground-floor room with two courtyard windows, a work desk, and a traditional Tunisian bench. Tissier opens onto a library and has two street-facing windows. Jomaa on the first floor features a bed integrated into the design and a courtyard view. Chamla is a deluxe suite with a king-sized bed and a small outdoor area within the suite. The property displays over 400 historical ceramic pieces from the private collection of Hamida Ben Gacem, positioned throughout the rooms and communal spaces.

Breakfast is included and served in the courtyard, lounge, or rooftop terrace. The hotel arranges Medina walks, cooking sessions with the chef, calligraphy experiences, and airport transfers. A rooftop overlooks the Medina. Dar Ben Gacem operates as a social enterprise, reinvesting profits into building restoration and supporting neighbourhood suppliers.
