Delta Camp

Set on an island off the south-western edge of Chief's Island in the Okavango Delta, Delta Camp is eight lethaka reed chalets built among palms and ancient trees. Each chalet sits on an elevated wooden deck above the forest floor, with an en-suite bathroom, hot and cold running water, and an outdoor shower that opens onto the surrounding bush. Solar panels power the lighting. Trees grow through the structure. Floor-to-ceiling views overlook the floodplains where elephants move through regularly and antelope gather at the waterline. Locally crafted furniture and mosquito nets complete the rooms. One treehouse room is built two storeys up around an old tree and offers views across the Delta.

The dining room and lounge occupy a raised deck overlooking the floodplains. Meals are communal, served at a shared table. The open bar stocks drinks throughout the day, and the sundeck is where guests gather at sunset to watch hippos in the channels below. Each guest is assigned a private guide for the duration of the stay. All activities are non-motorised. Twice daily, guides lead excursions on foot or by mokoro — the traditional dugout canoe poled silently through the Delta's channels and lagoons. Walking safaris move through the Moremi Game Reserve, where guides operate unarmed. Full-day walks with picnic lunches and visits to local baYei villages can be arranged. The camp sits within a landscape that holds leopard, lion, wild dog, buffalo, and over 450 recorded bird species. Laundry service is complimentary.
