Desert Homestead Lodge

Set in a valley sheltered by the Naukluft, Nubib, and Tsaris Mountains, the lodge lies on a private reserve near Sossusvlei. Twenty-six thatched chalets face the surrounding plains and the dunes of the Namib Desert to the west. Each chalet has twin or double beds, a separate bathroom with shower, air-conditioning powered by solar, mosquito nets, and a private shaded terrace with deck chairs. A family chalet holds two bedrooms—one with a double bed, one with two singles—and a shared bathroom. Tea and coffee facilities and a safe are standard.

Two pools sit among the grounds. A restaurant serves meals, and a bar operates on-site. An activity desk arranges excursions and guided rides. Stables hold horses for riding across the reserve, tracing ancient watercourses and open plains. Guided and self-guided walks begin at the lodge. Sleep-outs on the reserve can be arranged.

Half-day excursions run to Sossusvlei and the Namib Sand Sea in safari four-wheel-drive vehicles, accompanied by a guide. Departures are timed to the national park gates, which open seasonally at sunrise or late afternoon. Quad biking, helicopter flights, and wine tasting are available off-site. The lodge is malaria-free. Staff speak English and Afrikaans.
