Set at the foot of a rocky ridge in the centre of Welgevonden Game Reserve, Ekuthuleni Lodge has five standalone thatched suites overlooking a waterhole on the savanna plain. Four suites hold a king bed, an en-suite bathroom with an indoor and outdoor shower, a large bathtub, and a private terrace facing the plain. The family suite adds a mezzanine level with twin beds for children aged six and above, plus a second bathroom. Traditional stonework and thatch roofs define the architecture.
The lodge sits in a thirty-six-thousand-hectare private reserve in the shadow of the Waterberg mountains, three hours north of Johannesburg. Welgevonden is malaria-free and home to more than sixty-five mammal species, including lion, elephant, rhino, leopard, and buffalo. Twice-daily drives depart with a ranger in open safari vehicles; evening drives extend after dark to track nocturnal species. Sundowners are served on drives. You can watch elephants mud-bathe at the waterhole from the shaded veranda or the pool deck.
The lodge has a communal lounge, a pool, and a bar. Dinner is served under the stars beside a fire. The property accommodates a maximum of ten guests. Spa treatments are available in-suite. Laundry, wireless internet in central areas, and road transfers from the Welgevonden main gate are standard.
