El Retiro Lodge
Set on a hillside above the river in Lanquín, El Retiro spreads across multi-level grounds connected by paths and stairs that descend toward the water. The property houses shared dorms, semi-private rooms, private rooms, suites and deluxe cabins, each category distinguished by bed configuration and bathroom access. Standard dorms contain bunk beds with lockers and shared bathroom facilities. The She Dorm operates as a women-only space with air conditioning, hot water and a private bathroom. Semi-private rooms accommodate up to three guests with shared bathrooms; private rooms add ensuite facilities. Suites orient toward river and forest views. Deluxe cabins stand closest to the water and include a double bed, bunk bed, private bathroom, hot water and air conditioning.
A restaurant and bar occupy central positions on the property. Hammock terraces and reading areas distribute across the hillside. A swimming pool serves as a shared amenity. The lodge arranges day tours to Semuc Champey that include Kanba Caves, a waterfall, rope swing, viewpoint hike and time in the natural pools. River tubing departs twice daily from a nearby cave access point. Sunrise walks begin before dawn and ascend to La Viña viewpoint. Shared shuttles connect Lanquín with Antigua Guatemala, Guatemala City, Flores, Panajachel and Rio Dulce. The property uses a generator during power cuts that affect the town during heavy rain. Starlink WiFi operates across the grounds.
