Elewana Serengeti Pioneer Camp

Elewana Serengeti Pioneer Camp sits in the Moru Kopjes area of the Southern Serengeti, positioned to follow the annual wildebeest migration and with views that take in the kopjes themselves, Lake Magadi, and the open plains beyond. The camp holds twelve tented accommodations, each with private bathroom facilities — toilet, basin, and shower — inside the tent. The interiors draw from 1930s mobile safari camps: canvas walls, period detailing, the look of a camp that could, in theory, be packed onto trucks and moved with the herds.

The footprint is kept deliberately small. Meals follow a pattern common to camps of this type: breakfast and dinner in the dining tent, and lunch either in camp or taken out in the bush, depending on where the day's game drive leads. The Moru Kopjes area is granite-studded ground in the south of the Serengeti National Park, quieter than the northern corridors and well placed for lion and leopard as well as the migration when it passes through.

The camp does not move — it is a fixed-location camp built in the style of a mobile one — but the design keeps structures light and low against the surrounding landscape. Lake Magadi lies within the view from camp.
