Founded in 1990 as a golf resort on land settled in 1859 by British engineer Henry Fancourt White, Fancourt stands on 613 hectares beneath the Outeniqua Mountains near George. White built Blanco House after constructing the Montagu Pass in 1848. The estate passed through liquidation in 1992 and was purchased in 1994 by Dr Hasso and Sabine Plattner, who added three championship courses to the original layout. The Manor House, restored from White's home, is a protected national monument operating as an adults-only boutique hotel. The main Fancourt Hotel holds 115 rooms and suites arranged in classic, luxury, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom configurations, each between 32 m² and 86 m², with views toward the Outeniqua range, the Montagu golf course, or the estate gardens.
Four Gary Player courses occupy the property: the Montagu parkland layout, the Outeniqua course beneath the mountains, The Links modelled on British Isles links terrain, and a nine-hole short course called The Links Experience. The Golf Academy runs lessons with PGA professionals using video analysis. The Spa contains an indoor heated Roman bath, nine treatment rooms including two for couples, a sauna, steam room, and tepidarium. The Leisure Centre houses a cinema, indoor heated pool, outdoor pool with Jacuzzi, gymnasium, Kidz Club for ages three to 10, and a teen lounge with table tennis and foosball. Tennis courts, padel courts, and lawn bowls sit at The Ridge. Five restaurants serve estate guests: Monet's overlooks the Outeniqua course, La Cantina operates a wood-fired pizza oven, The Club Lounge faces the 18th green of Montagu, Amanita serves local ingredients, and Henry White's opens for private dining in the Manor House. Complimentary bicycles, fishing rods, and tennis equipment are available from the Leisure Centre. You can hear the calls of hadeda ibis from the terrace at dawn. George Airport lies seven kilometres northeast.
