Gili Teak Resort

Gili Teak Resort is on the western shore of Gili Trawangan, facing the sunset side of the island rather than its busier eastern beaches. The cottages, built from reclaimed teak wood over a century old, sit among garden planting a short walk from the sand. There are eight to eleven of them, each roughly 11.5 by 4 metres, with a bedroom opening onto a bathroom that has twin sinks, a rain shower, and a small pond stocked with fish. No cars or mopeds cross the island, so the only route to the harbour and its restaurants is on foot, by bicycle, or by horse cart. It takes about ten minutes to cycle there. A 19-metre freshwater pool, finished in pale palimanan stone, sits within the garden grounds. The beach club stands close to the water, roughly 20 metres from the shoreline, and serves breakfast through dinner with a menu that mixes Western dishes and Indonesian fusion cooking. Reef and coral lie just off the main beaches nearby, drawing divers and snorkellers who come for the island's turtle population. Housekeeping calls daily. The front desk runs around the clock.
