Gmundner Lodge
Founded on the heritage of Gmundner Keramik, an Austrian ceramic company established in 1492, Gmundner Lodge opened in 2021 on 6,000 hectares between the Kalahari Desert and the Khomas Plateau, south-east of Windhoek. The property operates as a Relais & Châteaux member and centres on an on-site farm that supplies the kitchen with vegetables, eggs, dairy, beef, venison, and honey. Twelve suites stand beneath canvas roofs in two categories. The Double Suite spans 205 m² with an open-plan bedroom, lounge, outdoor shower, and clawfoot bath. The Family Suite offers 260 m² across two bedrooms and two bathrooms, plus a private outdoor lounge. Each suite includes air-conditioning, overhead fans, a minibar, safe, indoor and outdoor bathing, and views across the savanna.

The main lodge is furnished with campaign furniture, antique safari pieces, telescopes, and binoculars. Canvas walls roll back to reveal the surrounding landscape. An infinity pool overlooks the plains. Guided game drives depart at sunrise and sunset across the concession. Extended drives head into neighbouring reserves to track elephant, lion, leopard, and rhino. Activities include horse riding on Western saddles, e-biking on solar-charged SunCycles, tennis, longbow shooting, clay pigeon shooting, stargazing, and helicopter flights. The spa offers two treatment rooms with massages and facials. A gym and sauna are accessible daily. You can hear birds at dawn from the deck. The property runs on solar energy and draws water from an underground well. Transfers to Windhoek International Airport take 45 minutes.
