Guest farm in the Great Karas Mountains between Grunau and Keetmanshoop with Nguni cattle
Guided drives in air-conditioned four-wheel-drive vehicles begin at sunrise or sunset, tracking oryx and springbok across the farm's open veld and through the Great Karas Mountains. The guest farm sits between Grunau and Keetmanshoop, just off the B1 road. The dry Goibib River crosses the property. Nine rooms have en-suite bathrooms, air-conditioning, ceiling fans, small fridges, safes, and coffee stations. A family room includes a full bathroom with a bath and accommodates guests with restricted mobility. One double room has underfloor heating and a full bathroom. Remaining rooms have showers only.
The farm runs a breeding herd of Nguni cattle; each animal's colouration and horn shape is unique. You can visit the herd and learn how staff select breeding stock. Self-guided walks cross the immediate landscape; mountain bikes are available. The lodge library holds bird identification guides. Stargazing uses on-site telescopes under unpolluted southern skies. Buffet-style meals are served in the dining room or on the terrace; braais take place in the boma on warm evenings. The region is malaria-free. Staff speak English and Afrikaans. Fish River Canyon lies within a two-hour drive; the Quiver Tree Forest and Giant's Playground dolerite formations sit near Keetmanshoop.
