Gorilla Safari Lodge

Gorilla Safari Lodge sits on the boundary of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Rushaga, the sector used for trekking the Nshongi gorilla group — the largest habituated group in the forest. The trekking starting point is a five-minute walk from the lodge entrance.

Bwindi holds around three hundred and forty mountain gorillas, a population that represents roughly half of the global total for the species. Trekking here means following rangers on foot through dense rainforest to locate and spend time with a habituated group. The lodge also offers gorilla habituation sessions, which run longer and go deeper into the forest.

The lodge has twenty en-suite cottages, each with a wooden balcony and views over the forest. Three cottages have two rooms connected by an internal door, suitable for families or small groups. All rooms have solar-powered lighting, hot and cold running water, mosquito netting, and a fireplace. The main building holds a restaurant, bar, and lounge, with a campfire area that looks out over the trees. There is also a spa offering massage.

Beyond gorilla trekking, the lodge runs guided walks to Bayenda Falls, birdwatching in a forest that holds over three hundred and fifty recorded species — including twenty-three Albertine Rift endemics — cultural visits with the Rushaga women's group, Batwa community visits, and mountain biking routes toward Lake Mutanda. Airport transfers and private vehicles are available on request.
