Governors' Private Camp

Governors' Private Camp occupies a bend of the Mara River inside the Masai Mara Reserve and can only be booked by a single party at a time. Eight tents sleep up to sixteen guests, and for the duration of the stay the camp is entirely yours — no other parties share the site, the guides, or the river frontage.

The location was chosen because animals come to drink here. Hippos rest in the shallows, and elephants bring their calves to the water. The riverine forest behind the tents holds a variety of birds, among them Turacos and nesting Hornbills. The camp is unfenced, so game moves through freely.

Guides and trackers assigned to the camp draw on the wider Governors' network, which has operated inside the Mara since 1972 — the first operator to be permanently based within the reserve. That history gives the guides a detailed knowledge of the land, the seasonal movements of wildlife, and the individual animals that use this section of the river.

The Governors' family of camps covers several sites in the Mara, and Private Camp guests have access to the resources and logistics of the broader operation. Transfer and access arrangements are handled through the camp directly.
