Klipgat Cave tour revealing Middle Stone Age life

Klipgat Cave lies near De Kelders on Walker Bay and features natural limestone formations with window-like openings overlooking the sea. It was inhabited by Middle Stone Age peoples around 70,000 to 80,000 years ago, who lived off local plants, small animals, and hunted species like steenbok and eland. The site provides archaeological layers revealing environmental and living conditions from that period. Later pastoralists, such as the Khoekhoen, used bone tools and crafted ornaments. Managed by Cape Nature Conservation, the cave is recognised for its cultural and historical value in the Western Cape.
