Nine suites on Mkambati Nature Reserve; boat excursions, freediving, SUP, and guided sardine-run snorkelling
Set within the Mkambati Nature Reserve on South Africa's Wild Coast, the lodge occupies a coastal strip sixty kilometres south of Port Edward. Nine suites face the Indian Ocean. Seven deluxe suites measure 116 m² and hold a super-king bed or twin three-quarter extra-length beds, double vanity, indoor and outdoor shower, bath, Nespresso machine, minibar, private deck, and pool. Two family suites span 224 m² across two bedrooms with separate entrances and an interleading door: one holds a super-king or twin beds, the other two singles. Each family suite has two en-suite bathrooms—one with bath, vanity, indoor and outdoor shower, and separate toilet; the second with shower, vanity, and toilet—plus a shared deck and pool.
Boat excursions launch from the beach year-round. Freediving and snorkelling take place in the marine protected area offshore. The sardine run passes mid-June to mid-July; daily boat trips run during the season, and shore-based observation is possible. Humpback whales migrate past the coast from July through October. On land, guided nature drives cross grassland where eland, red hartebeest, and blue wildebeest graze. Walking trails lead to waterfalls that descend directly into the sea. Kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding operate on estuaries and lagoons. Mountain-biking trails thread the reserve. Catch-and-release fishing is available with a guide. The lodge has a restaurant, bar, spa, and gym. A nursery and children's play area serve families. Flights from Durban's Virginia Airport land at the reserve airstrip; the journey takes forty-five minutes. Margate lies three hours forty-five minutes by road.
