Hasan Zawaideh Camp

Red sandstone rises behind the tents. Hasan Zawaideh Camp occupies a site in the Wadi Rum Protected Area, a few minutes by vehicle from the visitor centre on the edge of southern Jordan's desert. Eighty-six tents spread across the site; the camp is run by the Zawaideh family, part of the Zalabiyah tribe that has lived in this region for generations.

Martian dome tents are transparent structures with panoramic glass walls and views of the surrounding dunes and night sky. Each dome holds up to four adults, has a private bathroom, climate control, and modern fittings. Deluxe tents accommodate up to three adults and have private bathrooms with hot water, seating areas, and windows facing the desert. Both types have air-conditioning and heating.

Jeep tours cross the protected area, visiting the sandstone formations known as the Seven Pillars of Wisdom, the Burdah rock bridge, and the red sand dunes below Jabal Nasraniyah. Camel rides and hiking trails lead into the surrounding valleys. Stargazing tours use telescopes and are led by astronomers. You can climb Jabal Umm Adami, Jordan's highest point, on the Saudi border. Sandboarding is available on the steeper dunes.

Dinner is cooked in an underground zarb oven and served in the main tent or outdoors. Tea and storytelling follow around the campfire.
