Helicopter Horizons

Helicopter Horizons is based in Maun, the main gateway into the Okavango Delta, and operates the only helicopter charter service in the region. The company has been running for twenty years. Its fleet of over twenty-five aircraft — Robinson and Bell Turbine helicopters — covers the Okavango Delta, the Linyanti region, and the Makgadikgadi Pans. Every flight is private, and every passenger is guaranteed a window seat.

The core offer is doors-off scenic flights, which can be booked from any lodge within the Okavango Delta and Linyanti. From the air, the delta's channels, lagoons, and seasonal floodplains read as a single system in a way that is impossible to grasp from ground level. Pilots are also guides: they read the landscape below and position the aircraft over wildlife as it moves.

Beyond scenic flights, Helicopter Horizons runs lodge transfers — useful when an airstrip is forty-five minutes by road from camp — and a set of specific destination flights. The Tsodilo Hills flight reaches a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Conservation and Co-existence Cultural visit combines a stop at CLAWS (Communities Living Among Wildlife Sustainably), a livestock-protection programme, with a two-hour guided tour of the Hambukushu village of Eretsha, organised by the conservation NGO Ecoexist. Both projects address human-wildlife conflict in areas reachable only by air. The company also supports filming and photographic charters, with doors removed to allow clean sight lines.
