Jamala Madikwe Royal Safari Lodge
Glass fronts each villa bedroom in a floor-to-ceiling span that opens onto the waterhole or savannah plains below. Five freestanding villas descend along the slope in Madikwe Game Reserve, a malaria-free tract of 75,000 hectares in South Africa's North West province. Each holds a four-poster bed draped in mosquito netting, a walk-in dressing room, a lounge with fireplace, air-conditioning, a private rim-flow pool, and an outdoor shower on a wrap-around teak deck. Villa Three offers twin extra-length beds. The main lodge sits above the private waterhole; a two-level deck holds the bar, multiple pools, and the sofa-safari viewing terrace.

Twice-daily game drives at dawn and dusk last three to four hours. Rangers hold FGASA qualifications and advanced rifle-handling certificates. The reserve shelters 130 mammal species and over 300 bird species, including the Super Seven — lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, buffalo, wild dog, and cheetah. Vehicles seat a maximum of six guests. Walking safaris and private vehicles can be arranged.

Head chef Jacques Sansom and executive chef Nico Verster design the menus; the lodge has won Best Safari Cuisine in Africa three times. Dinner locations rotate: the outdoor boma, the watchtower, or the pool deck under stars. The spa offers full-body treatments using Charlotte Rhys products with baobab oil and Kalahari melon seed oil. A gym with treadmill, free weights, and TRX equipment opens daily. The deck bar runs gin-and-tonic tastings at sundowner hour.
