Klein-Aus Vista Eagle's Nest Chalets Gondwana Collection Namibia

Built into rounded granite boulders in the Aus Mountains, the seven self-catering chalets sit seven kilometres from the Desert Horse Inn reception. Each chalet incorporates the surrounding rock into its interior and faces west across the Pro-Namib plains where sand and grass meet. Three chalets hold two three-quarter beds; four hold three beds or a mix of double and single beds. One chalet links two bedrooms through a shared lounge with interleading doors. All have en-suite showers, ceiling fans, fireplaces, a small kitchen with a fridge and cooking equipment, a stocked minibar, a safe, tea and coffee facilities, and a private veranda. An outdoor braai sits outside each chalet.

Guests may self-cater or drive to the Desert Horse Inn for restaurant meals; take-away breakfast and barbecue packs are available on request. Six hiking trails traverse the granite-gneiss hills, ranging from two to five hours and marked throughout. Mountain-bike trails run from 18 to 35 kilometres through the Aus range, mostly single-track routes recommended for intermediate riders; dual-suspension bikes are available for hire. Guided scenic drives cross Gondwana Sperrgebiet Rand Park at sunset, revealing the flora and fauna of the Succulent Karoo. Day excursions run to the Garub waterhole, 20 kilometres west, where Namib wild horses gather, and to the abandoned diamond town of Kolmanskop and the coastal settlement of Lüderitz, both under 120 kilometres away. The Desert Horse Inn has a swimming pool, a bar, a restaurant, secure parking, and 300 MB of complimentary wireless internet. Laundry service and credit-card payment are available.
