Four-bedroom colonial riverside home with dedicated guide and private chef
Renovated as a colonial-style exclusive-use home, Kolokolo stands in the Pitsani sector within Mashatu Game Reserve's portion of the Northern Tuli. The house was named after the Kolokolo bird in Rudyard Kipling's Just So Stories — the only creature willing to guide the Elephant's Child to the crocodile. Four en-suite bedrooms flank a central lounge and dining room centred on a fireplace; stacking doors open onto a wrap-around veranda that extends the dining and sitting space outdoors. A fitted kitchen allows guests to prepare their own meals if preferred, though a private chef is assigned to the house. The boma and braai area sit outdoors under the stars; the Limpopo flows audibly beyond the lawn.
A reservoir pool overlooks the river and the animals that come to drink. A dedicated guide and vehicle conduct morning and evening game drives across the reserve's terrain of riverine forest, rocky outcrops, and plains. Walking safaris follow trails within the lodge grounds and along the river corridor. Solar panels supply all power. The home accommodates up to eight guests and requires a minimum two-night stay. Transfers run between the house and Limpopo Valley Airfield, Pont Drift Border Post, or Mathathane Village. When the Limpopo floods, a cable car crosses the river at Pont Drift; otherwise vehicles ford directly.
