La Clé Villas
La Clé Village occupies buildings dating back more than 300 years on one of the oldest streets in Franschhoek, a wine-producing valley in South Africa's Western Cape. The property spans two working farms planted with vines, plum orchards, and lavender-edged gardens. Four exclusive-use villas and five suites lie amid the vineyards, each a distinct structure designed independently. Mountains ring the valley on all sides. The four villas are Galerie, Manoir, Grange, and Domain. Galerie is a two-bedroom contemporary villa with an open-plan living area, private pool, and garden facing the vineyards and peaks. Manoir, also two bedrooms, is a Victorian structure with book-lined reception rooms, a farmhouse kitchen, and a wrap-around terrace. Grange, a former village barn later used as a jazz bar, now holds three bedrooms beneath poplar-beamed ceilings and twin fireplaces. All villas are taken on an exclusive-use basis. Each includes a dedicated host, daily breakfast, housekeeping, laundry, and replenished house drinks. The five suites occupy La Clé Lodge, a Cape Dutch manor with communal living, dining, and outdoor spaces. A pool, dam, and manicured gardens front the vines. Shared-table dinners, traditional South African braais, and picnic baskets can be arranged. In-house spa treatments are available. Franschhoek's restaurants, galleries, and wine estates lie within walking distance. A tennis court, boules pitch, and croquet lawn occupy the Lodge grounds. You can hear birdsong from the terraces.
