Lake Elmenteita Serena Camp

Arriving by road from Nairobi, guests cross Soysambu Conservancy to reach the camp on the shore of Lake Elmenteita, two hours north-west. Twenty-four tents and one suite rest beneath golden-barked acacias, framed by ancient volcanic hills. Deluxe Double tents hold a king bed, a balcony overlooking the lake, free wireless internet, a tea and coffee station, and a bathroom with twin vanities and a dual-head shower. Deluxe Twin tents substitute two single beds for the king. The Flamingo Suite stands apart: a separate bedroom, a lounge with television and mini-fridge, and a bathroom with a Jacuzzi facing the lake. All rooms have mosquito nets.

Morning and evening game drives cross the conservancy with a naturalist guide, tracking Rothschild's giraffe, lion, leopard, and buffalo. Night drives reveal aardvark, porcupine, and the big cats on the hunt. Guided nature walks begin at the camp and cross acacia thickets to the lakeshore, a UNESCO World Heritage wetland. Over 450 bird species have been recorded, including flamingo and the endangered great white pelican. Horse riding with experienced guides offers a mounted view of the conservancy. An infinity pool overlooks the shore. The dining room serves buffet breakfast and a table d'hôte dinner; bush dining can be arranged at the lake edge. A 57-square-metre conference tent holds meetings for up to forty. Spa treatments and laundry service are available.
