Set under camouflage shade netting on the edge of Lake Natron, Lake Natron Camp's ten guest tents each hold a porch, king-size bed with Egyptian linen, and an en-suite bathroom with shower and eco toilet. Furniture is made from greenwood. A private path runs from each tent to a natural swimming pool fed by spring water. Larger pools suitable for swimming lie further downstream; endemic cichlids inhabit the water.
The camp operates a bar and restaurant. Complimentary laundry service is provided. Two Maasai therapists trained on site offer massage. The camp employs and trains staff from the local Maasai village of Ngare Sero.
Guided walks reach the hominid footprints within the concession — catalogued at between five thousand and nineteen thousand years old — and the flamingo flats on Lake Natron, where roughly 75 per cent of the world's lesser flamingo population are born. The Ngare Sero gorge hike takes around 40 minutes one way to a set of waterfalls where you can swim. A full-day hike follows the gorge to its source. The six-hour Rift Valley day hike scales the escarpment wall before dawn for a picnic breakfast at the top. Ol Doinyo Lengai, the only active carbonatite volcano on earth, rises nearby; the overnight ascent begins at camp and is lit by moonlight.
