Lamai Serengeti
Founded by Nomad Tanzania on the Kogakuria Kopje in northern Serengeti, Lamai is twelve stone-and-thatch rooms raised on timber decking among granite boulders. The kopje overlooks plains that stretch for miles. Each room is open-fronted with mosquito netting that zips closed and canvas roll-downs for weather; beds are draped with canopied nets. Three rooms adjoin a twin for children, sharing the bathroom. Bathrooms are enclosed by mesh and contain a shower with hot and cold running water. Meals use ingredients sourced locally; cooking is done on-site. Game drives depart with an experienced guide, either shared or private if pre-booked. Walking safaris operate outside the high-grass months of January to March and June. From late July through October, the wildebeest migration crosses the Mara River a few miles from camp. Year-round, the northern Serengeti supports resident lion, leopard, elephant, and buffalo. Laundry service, wireless internet, and 24-hour security are standard. Staff speak English and Swahili. You can hear the plains from your veranda at dawn.
