Lolkisale Camp

Locally woven rugs lie across teak floors in each of the eight tented suites, and verandahs face a wetland where elephant herds cross most mornings in search of water. Lolkisale Camp sits inside Tarangire National Park in northern Tanzania, positioned so that game drives begin at first light without waiting at a gate. The camp stands beside an open wetland fed by the Tarangire River, which draws wildlife year-round. Between July and October — the dry season — elephant numbers in the park can reach three thousand, and you can watch buffalo herds, giraffe, impala, and zebra move through the wetland from your suite. Lions and leopards follow the herds.

Each suite holds a queen bed, an ensuite bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers, and a lounge area. The camp's central dining tent accommodates group meals or private corners for two. A separate lounge tent holds a bar stocked with South African wines, arabica coffee, and mixed drinks. Guides lead walking safaris directly from camp to Silale Swamp, a resident lion territory within close range. Night drives track leopards, wild dogs, and cheetahs after dark. Bush breakfasts, lunches, and sundowners are set in clearings within the park. Tarangire holds more than 550 bird species and Tanzania's largest elephant population after Botswana. The camp offers exclusive-use safari vehicles with a private guide for those who prefer to set their own schedule.
