The hike to Laguna Esmeralda begins from Los Cauquenes Resort & Spa and proceeds north through Andean forest. The trail crosses a broad valley featuring mountains, peat bogs, rivers, and regional flora and fauna. The ascent includes a 200-metre incline and takes about an hour and a half each way. At the lagoon, hikers have lunch while looking over the surrounding mountains, glaciers, and forest, alongside the lagoon's distinctive coloured water.
