Machangulo Beach Villa

Machangulo Beach Villa stands in the coastal dunes of the Machangulo Peninsula, where the Indian Ocean runs along the front of the property and the Maputo Special Reserve lies a short drive behind it. Three separate cottages, each built on stilts to reduce ground impact, hold a king suite apiece — all en-suite, all with ocean views, and each connected by a deck and pathway to the main building. The main building contains a kitchen, open dining room, living room, and a separate TV room with satellite television. A central deck with a swimming pool links the spaces.

The villa takes up to six guests and runs as either catered or self-catering; three staff members are on site throughout. Provisions are available at Santa Maria, roughly forty minutes by road.

The beach in front of the villa is part of a sixteen-kilometre stretch. A reef close to shore offers snorkelling in rock pools at low tide; deeper water on the ocean side of the reef is accessible for stronger swimmers. The villa can arrange deep-sea fishing trips targeting dorado, barracuda, and tuna. Between December and mid-February, leatherback and loggerhead turtles come ashore to nest on the Machangulo beaches; guests can join the monitoring team at night to watch them arrive. Between July and November, humpback whales pass the peninsula in large numbers and are visible from the deck.

Day trips into the Maputo Special Reserve — elephants, buffalo, hippos, flamingos, and inland lakes — leave from the villa.
