Set on a hill above the Klaserie riverbed, Makumu Private Game Lodge occupies six suites across three villas in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, part of the Greater Kruger. The name translates to 'endless view' in Xitsonga. Each villa holds one King Suite and one smaller Impi Suite, accommodating twelve guests in total. The three villas draw inspiration from the Bushman, Ndebele, and Zulu cultural traditions, with interiors reflecting their distinct character through earth tones, geometric patterns, and beadwork.
The King Suites measure six metres by six metres and include a walk-in closet, an en-suite bathroom with bath and shower, and a viewing deck with hammock. Impi Suites measure five metres by six metres, with shower-only bathrooms and viewing decks. All suites feature air conditioning, fans, and international plug points. Lighting throughout the lodge uses candles and lanterns, with three hundred candles lit each evening.
Rangers and trackers lead morning and afternoon game drives in open Land Rovers. Walking safaris track antelope, elephant, and other species on foot. A sunken photography hide, iThumbela, allows guests to photograph wildlife at ground level as animals approach the watering hole. The Klaserie hosts lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino, wild dog, and hyena. A treehouse overlooks the reserve. The main lodge includes a pool, communal dining area, spa treatment rooms, and basic gym equipment. Laundry service and wireless internet are complimentary.
