Restored heritage manor in Riebeek West, an hour north of Cape Town
Arriving at the manor on Church Road, guests enter one of the oldest houses in Riebeek Valley, a heritage property completed in 1904. The building was named after a village in southern France and has been restored by successive owners; the landscaped gardens were designed by a local nursery and now hold olive and fruit trees, a vegetable plot, and hens that supply breakfast eggs each morning.
Four en-suite rooms occupy the main house. The Chenin Room spans 48 square metres and includes a four-poster queen bed, a private patio facing the Saronsberg Mountains, and an oversized bathroom with a free-standing copper bathtub. The Grenache Room measures 31 square metres and opens directly onto the salt-water pool terrace, with views across the olive groves toward the Kasteelberg Mountain. The Syrah Room is 28 square metres; the Viognier Room is 24 square metres. All four have air-conditioning, a television, bar fridge, safe, espresso machine, and high ceilings that moderate temperature naturally. The Littlest Library stocks French and South African literature.
Breakfast is cooked to order and includes homemade yoghurt, pancakes, and free-range eggs. The manor lies an hour north of Cape Town, within walking distance of Riebeek West's restaurants. Franschhoek, Stellenbosch, and the fishing village of Paternoster are each forty-five minutes away by car. Secure parking is provided on site.
