Mhondoro Safari Lodge & Villa

Mhondoro sits inside Welgevonden Game Reserve in Limpopo, a malaria-free Big Five reserve roughly two hours and forty-five minutes by road from O.R. Tambo — Johannesburg's main international airport. A small aircraft cuts that to under an hour.

The lodge holds twelve units across several configurations: Luxury Pool Suites and a Honeymoon Suite for couples, two-bedroom Executive and Family options for groups of four, and a separate three-bedroom Villa available for exclusive use by families or small groups. The Villa includes a private chef, private butler, private gym and yoga room, and a dedicated ranger. Every suite category except the Family Pool Suite has a private deck looking directly over the waterhole.

The standout feature is an underground photographic hide, set at waterhole level and reached by a sixty-five-metre tunnel running from the main lodge. Animals drink a few metres away while you watch from below ground. Welgevonden enforces a strict limit on the number of vehicles allowed out at any one time, so drives run without other traffic competing for sightings.

On-site facilities include a spa offering deep tissue, hot stone, and aromatherapy treatments, two gyms, a heated pool, an infrared sauna, and an open-air star-gazing deck. A playground enclosed by an elephant-proof fence and a children's bush walk cater to younger guests. The lodge operates off the grid.
