Game drives depart twice daily in open ten-seater Toyota LandCruisers across 12,000 hectares of traversing area in the Balule Private Game Reserve. Mohlabetsi Safari Lodge stands within Greater Kruger National Park, 10 kilometres north of Hoedspruit. The original camp dates to around 1960; expansions and upgrades over the decades have brought the lodge to its current form, graded four stars by South Africa's Tourism Grading Council. Six thatched rondavels with king or twin beds hold outdoor showers open to the stars. Two sets of interleading rooms add doors that lock from both sides; each room has its own entrance and shower. The Impala Lily Suite includes a private plunge pool, a freestanding bath, and both indoor and outdoor showers. All rooms carry air conditioning, overhead fans, safes, and complimentary wi-fi.
Rangers and trackers lead morning and evening drives; routes and timing shift according to what has been seen and what guests want to find. The Greater Kruger area holds 149 mammal species and more than 260 bird species recorded locally. Vehicles stop for sundowner drinks at a vantage point as the sun sets. Lunch is served on the lawn in the shade of an acacia tree, with a view over a waterhole. Dinner unfolds in the boma around the fire during cooler months; candlelit tables under the stars replace it in summer. A curio shop occupies a former trophy room; mounted trophies and wooden carvings line the walls. The swimming pool has submerged martini seats and stays warm year-round.
