Monachira Camp

Motorboats depart from the camp jetty at first light, pushing through reed channels toward the Godikwe heronry where thousands of egrets, herons, and storks nest in season. Monachira Camp sits on an island beside the Monachira channel in the Moremi Game Reserve, within the permanent water system of the Okavango Delta. Eight canvas tents — each with king or twin beds — stand on raised timber decks above the floodplains; two can be linked with a shared common area to form family accommodation for four. En-suite bathrooms include hot water showers, flush toilets, and double vanity basins. Solar panels supply electricity; a thermodynamic system generates hot water regardless of weather.

Guides pole mokoro canoes at water level through lilies and papyrus, offering a quiet vantage for spotting sitatunga — a semi-aquatic antelope adapted to swamp habitat — and the Pel's fishing owl. Game drives leave the island via shallow crossings when water permits, tracking elephant herds, leopard, and lion on the surrounding floodplains. Guided walks explore the island's forests on foot. The tented dining and lounge area overlooks the wetlands; a plunge pool and fire pit occupy the communal deck. Each vehicle carries a maximum of six guests. Battery charging and Wi-Fi connections are available in the tents. Laundry service is complimentary. The nearest airstrip lies a short game drive from camp.
